In states that license naturopathic doctors, a naturopathic doctor can serve as a primary care physician. Unfortunately, the state of Tennessee along with all southern states do not license naturopathic doctors and therefore cannot practice within the full scope of their training. Additionally, since Tennessee does not license NDs, anyone can use the title naturopathic doctor. Did you know that many of the people using the title naturopathic doctor in Tennessee have only undergone 1-2 years of online training, which only requires a GED and offers no medical training? Licensable naturopathic doctors graduate from 4 year graduate level accredited naturopathic medical schools. Should Tennessee start licensing naturopathic doctors, only those that graduated from an accredited program would be able to obtain a license and use the title naturopathic doctor. This discrepancy in education and training can be very confusing for people looking to work with a naturopathic doctor, so it is important to do your research when looking for a naturopathic doctor. Dr. Sullivan is the only ND in West TN that graduated from an accredited naturopathic medical school, and to date, there are only 5 licensable NDs practicing the entire state of TN.

Since TN does not license NDs, Dr. Sullivan is unable to serve as your physician and cannot order labs or imaging, prescribe drugs, or diagnose you with a condition during a visit. She can however serve as a consultant and offer nutritional advice, review labs and medical records, recommend tests and treatments to discuss with your doctor, and offer you insight into the root cause of your particular health complaints. Dr. Sullivan works with people of all ages, from newborn to seniors.
